What is healthy sperm?
The key factors when assessing sperm health is the shape and structure (morphology) of sperm and the ability to swim (motility). The World Health Organization guideline is at least 10 million motile sperm per ml of semen. Below five million, a man is definately sterile. Motility describes the proportion of moving sperm. A normal sample will contain at least 50% rapidly moving sperm in straight lines with some erratic behaviour. If the sperm are twitching or not moving at all, it indicates a fertility problem.
Why is it important?
When a couple fail to conceive, the male is responsible almost as often as the female so it is just as important to test the sperm as all the women factors. When investigating infertility Doctors always request a sperm sample at the outset to rule out any problems. The beauty of this test is that you can do it in the privacy of your own home. Male infertility is said to be on the increase as sperm counts have reduced by 53% in the last 50 years!
How to test your sperm
The Fertell Male fertility test challenges the sperm to swim up a fluid-filled chamber, mimicking the process that the sperm would go through inside the female’s body as it tries to reach the egg. The Fertell sperm test is technologically advanced, yet the design makes it easy to use. After producing a semen sample, there are just a few simple steps to do.
There are two at home sperm testing kits available to you:
1. Baby Start Male Fertility Test
Baby Start Male Fertility Test is an easy to use screening test designed to help measure sperm concentration.
This Home Diagnostic Screening Test should be used by men who want to determine if their sperm concentration is above or below the minimum fertility standard of 20 million/ml established by the World Health Organization
2. Fertell Male Fertility Test
Laboratory testing at your doctor’s office has been the standard way to evaluate motile sperm. But now, Fertell’s technology delivers an at-home fertility test that allows you to evaluate the concentration of motile sperm with lab quality accuracy. Any other test available in a drug store will not evaluate sperm motility. Fertell is the only at-home test that can accomplish this.
