What are deficiencies?

It is widely accepted that certain vitamins are vital before, during and after pregnancy. You only have to visit your doctor’s surgery to see the numerous posters about the importance of taking folic acid supplements to help prevent neural tube defects like spina bifida. There are several others that are essential to your reproductive health. Here is a brief summary of two vitamins that if deficient have proven to cause defects and problems.

*Vitamin A – daily recommended amount = 600mcg/day

If seriously deficient can cause eye defects, cleft palate, cleft lip, undescended testicles in a fetus.

*Essential fatty acids (Omega 3, 6 9) recommended 700-1000mg/day
A deficiency has been linked to pre-eclampsia in the mother.

These are just two examples of the many vitamins required. If you are interested in a full list of the essential vitamins required plus guidelines on a healthy diet, 12 pages of the book ‘3 Steps to Fertility’ have been dedicated to the subject as it is so important. Get your copy NOW!

Why is it important?

The body needs certain vitamins and minerals to be abundance to keep the sperm and egg healthy. Sometimes what we perceive to be a ‘good diet’ is not supplementing the body in the right way for pregnancy. Nutritional tests can identify which vitamins and minerals are deficient in your body at any one point in time.

Also it can be heartbreaking to successful conceive and later miscarry perhaps as a result of having insufficient nutrients to sustain the pregnancy to full term.

Unexplained infertiltiy accounts for 20% of fertility cases where tests show no hormonal, structural or sperm problems. Yet after a year of trying, pregnancy has not occured. In these cases, diet and nutrition may be able to help couples in conceiving.

Today’s foods are over processed and covered with harmful chemicals such as pesticides. The foods you eat and drink affect your fertility. it is amazing to think that couples have concieved naturally by changing their diet alone, but it is true.

The evidence
A three year study of 367 infertile couples showed that after making the necessary dietary changes, 86% became pregnant naturally!

How to test your nutritional status

Believe it or not, a sample of your recent hair growth provides all the essential information required to assess your deficiencies. Two tablespoons of hair 2.5 cm (1 in) long from the nape of your neck is required. This sample is sent to the Trace Mineral Analysis Laboratory where it will be washed, cooked amd analysed for mineral deficiencies and environmental factors that may be affecting your health (water, detergents, pesticides, lead, etc).

Within seven days a detailed report is collated comparing your results against the recommended values for each of 19 trace minerals. Following the results, a tailored supplementation programme is recommended for at least three months prior to concpetion to enable the body to build up the necessary reserves that may have been deficient.

A new hair sample should be taken every three months so the appropriate supplement programme can be adjusted until it is ideal for pregnancy.

We were alarmed at some of the results, especially the amount of lead in Simons system. After a few months of cleansing we received a great report ideal for conception!
